Room for Debate: Debt Ceiling History

The August 2nd Debt Ceiling deadline is drawing ever nearer and the bullshit from both sides of the aisles is piling ever higher. If Zeus were to send his bastard son Hercules back to earth today to complete his Twelve Labors, brooming out the Senate stables would be task numero uno.

Anyway, you don't want to sound like a dunce with no historical perspective on the topic.  With that in mind, your homework assignment this weekend is to read these six perspectives in the New York Times Room for Debate series.  You'll hear from some of the top Presidential historians in the country in the piece.  Each of them tells the tale of debt ceilings and tax battles past.  You'll be more informed if you do.
