Back in say '06 saying "I'm an i-banker (trader, whatever)" had shocking influence amongst certain groups of teh womens. I honestly don't think too much has changed, from the extremely limited set of data from which I'm jumping to that conclusion. Sure, in some social circles/scenes its passe but chances are many of those in such circles aren't worth convincing that you're not an evil capitalist pig, let alone trying to go home/make friends with.

Just like in good times and in bad, if your job (or implied paycheck) has that much influence on your social/dating success, you're probably not hanging out with the kinda peoples that'll be there long-term or whatever.
